Local cellists and teachers Steven Farr and Larissa Humphries present an evening of cello chamber music, with Vince Humphries on piano (and third cello!).  Featuring works by Vivaldi, Bartok, Liz Davis Maxfield, and more!


 

Larissa Humphries Bio:

Larissa Humphries is a cellist and cello teacher in Bountiful Utah. She maintains a cello studio of over 25 students and has taught hundreds of young cellists over the years. She has a Bachelor’s degree in cello performance from the University of Utah, where her teachers included Steven Emerson, Gayle Smith, and Ryan Selberg. Larissa has performed extensively in the Salt Lake and Davis County areas, including 15 years of performing with a string quartet for the Young Audiences program that visited elementary schools across the valley. Larissa has been a member of numerous other ensembles, including the Momon Symphony, American West Symphony, and more. Larissa is an avid biker, and she and her husband Vince have 5 children.

Vince Humphries Bio:

Vince Humphries began playing piano at the age of 4 after hearing his grandfather play some early dance band tunes on an old upright. He was awarded a 4-year scholarship in piano performance at the University of Utah where his teachers included Gladys Gladstone and Lennox Larson. Vince has performed extensively in the Salt Lake and Davis County areas. In recent years his interests have shifted to include jazz piano, and his attention has focused more on accompaniment. He is a member of H-DUO with clarinetist Jaren Hinckley at BYU. Vince is also an accomplished cellist and served as principal cellist for the Momon Symphony for 10 years. Vince has a BS and an MS in electrical engineering and works for a communications company.

Steven Farr Bio:

Cellist Steven Farr has performed as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestra member throughout Utah, North Carolina, Virginia, and Europe.  Steven earned a bachelor’s degree in music from the University of Utah and a Master of Music in Cello Performance and Suzuki Pedagogy from East Carolina University.  His principal teachers include John Eckstein, Emanuel Gruber, Pegsoon Whang, and Joanne Bath.  Steven is a passionate chamber musician and educator.  He served as cellist of the University of Utah’s Mount Olympus Honors String Quartet from 2013-2015, performed in the Four Seasons Chamber Music Festival at East Carolina University, and is a founding member of Davis County’s Antelope Chamber Players.  As a teacher, Steven maintains a full-time cello studio, directs a youth cello ensemble, and is a frequent faculty member at the North Carolina Suzuki Institute.
