Will Newhall is a photographer located in Draper, Utah who focuses on close-up abstract photography.
This exhibit features artwork from three different sets: The Ring Set, the Black Background Set, and the Glass Ball Set. My artwork tends to focus on using the abstract to focus on our reality. The Ring Set, for example, focuses the exhibition of placing rings with various backgrounds to produce a sharp contrast between the subject (the rings) and the background. The Black Background Set is an even more simplistic version of this. It specifically focuses on the subject of each photo using one universal black background. This gives the viewer the opportunity to focus on the details of the subject, rather than the background. Lastly, the images featuring a Glass Ball with a natural background are about essentially flipping the world upside down for a moment. Due to the physics of light and how we perceive our world, we often ignore many parts of it. This project focuses on bringing your attention towards the ball which, by morphing the background, draws your attention to the background. Photography is, in part, about showing reality. These focus your attention on that reality.
