Featured artists: the Davis High School Jazz Band and Moonlight Singers, under direction of Steve Hendricks and Jane Fjeldsted.

The Davis High Jazz Moonlight Orchestra presents “Moonlight Serenade,” an evening of big band music featuring the Moonlight Singers. This has been an annual Davis High School event for the past 24 years, keeping alive the music of Glen Miller, Artie Shaw, Tommy Dorsey and other big-band legends.

Jane Fjeldsted’s Moonlight Singers will perform classic tunes that originated with Glenn Miller’s Modernaires.
Glenn Miller, the man responsible for making big band swing music the most popular genre of the 1930s and ‘40s, gave his life serving our country during World War II. In honor of him, one tradition during the Moonlight Serenade’s annual concerts at DHS is recognizing those who have served our country. Each night a different veteran of a foreign war is honored for his or her contribution, followed by a patriotic medley of Armed Forces tunes.

Steve Hendricks is in his 19th year with the program. In 2003 he was recognized as “Outstanding High School Educator” at the Utah Best in State Awards. He is listed in both “Who’s Who Among American Teachers” and “Who’s Who in America.”
