The Weber State Alumni Singers, under the direction of Evelyn Harris, will join forces with a chamber orchestra consisting of members of the Wasatch Chamber Music Society to perform the Faure’s ethereal masterpiece, Requiem.
This requiem, or mass for the dead in 7 movements, is unlike other works of its nature as it is dominated from beginning to end by a very human feeling of faith in eternal rest.
French composer, Gabriel Faure (1845-1924) did not express a fear of death in his work. He saw death as a happy deliverance, an aspiration towards happiness above. The Requiem is only 36 minutes in length. Other selections will be performed by the Alumni Singers and Wasatch Chamber Music Society strings, including Bach’s beloved Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring.
