Katie Hill & Rosemary Beless, vocals; Franklin Fisher, guitar

The Cat and the Canaries have developed their own jazz-folk fusion style combining their diverse backgrounds in jazz, folk and classical music. The Canaries, Katie Hill and Rosemary Beless, with voices that span multiple octaves, blend vocal solos and duets ranging from “When I Fall in Love,” “Call Me Irresponsible,” and “La Seine,” to “I Know Where I’m Goin'” and “Turn Ye to Me.”

Katie Hill is a well-known singer and teacher of singers in Salt Lake City. She has sung leading roles in musical theater productions including My Fair Lady, Sound of Music, and Carousel, and has performed as a soloist with the Utah Symphony and as a recitalist throughout the United States. She was a member of the vocal faculty at the University of Utah for 17 years.

Rosemary Beless is the singing attorney at Fabian & Clendenin in downtown Salt Lake City. She has performed as a soloist in Mozart’s Exultate Jubilate and Beethoven’s C Major Mass and has performed for many years with Franklin Fisher at a variety of venues including the Utah Museum of Fine Arts, the Utah Chamber Music Series, and the Utah Shakespeare Festival.

Franklin Fisher, professor emeritus of English at the University of Utah, is a writer, musician, and artist. He has published a novel and 24 short stories, and plays folk, classical, and jazz guitar. Franklin is the arranger, accompanist, and recording engineer for the Canaries.
